Campaigners Speak Up for Wales this Autumn!
Published: 18 Oct 2016
Friends of the Earth Cymru are just one out of 16 influential Welsh Organisations that make up Stop Climate Chaos Cymru coalition, representing thousands of people across Wales for Climate action. Stop Climate Chaos Cymru has organised a series of events across Wales where members of the public will tell their local AMs and MPs why they want to see politicians taking tough action to tackle climate change.
One of the first events found campaigners gathering at the newly-opened Radyr Weir Hydro Scheme [1] with Cardiff West Labour MP Kevin Brennan. After an educational tour around the project by Richard Cornock of Cardiff Council, Kevin Brennan made a pledge to SpeakUp for action on climate change!
There was also a great meeting at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, who hosted another successful Local Climate Lobby. Local AM Simon Thomas attended the meeting, and pledged to #SpeakUp in his region.
With the momentum keeping up for the rest of Autumn such as beach cleans and public meetings, take a look to see whether there are any events near you happening here: https://goo.gl/uLlmnh
Speaking to Haf Elgar, Chair of SCC Cymru, and campaigner for Friends of the Earth Cymru, she said:
“In this new Assembly, we need politicians to Speak Up and commit to taking action to tackle climate change. Climate is one of the biggest challenges the world faces, and Wales needs to play its part in fighting it. So, when people across Wales meet their AMs as part of our Local Climate Lobby this autumn, they’ll be showing them that now is the time for action to cut dirty emissions and support renewables.
