Nearly 4000 people in Wales have signed a petition to the Welsh Government calling for urgent action to make our homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

People in Wales are struggling to pay their energy bills. We are being hit harder by the energy crisis than in any other part of the UK, and this is partly because of our homes – energy is wasted through uninsulated roofs, walls, and windows.

Julie James, Climate Change Minister, is expecting to make an announcement on the Welsh Government’s warm home programme soon.

The petition, calling for real solutions like home insulation, more renewables, ditching fossil fuels and financial support for those in need, demonstrates that there is a strong public support for an ambitious warm homes programme.

Haf Elgar, Director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said:

“We don’t want to face a winter like the one we’ve just had. No one should have to choose between heating and eating. We need to help those who need it the most. Making our homes more energy efficient will bring down both bills and carbon emissions.

“This petition shows the Welsh Government the depth of support for real solutions to the cost-of-living crisis: home insulation, more renewables, ditching fossil fuels and support for those in need.”

The petition, organised by Climate Cymru with support from one of their partners, Friends of the Earth Cymru, was presented to Welsh Government on 30 March 2023.
