Solar panels (also known as photovoltaics or PV), tiles and slates capture the sun's energy and convert it into electricity that you can use in your home and sell back to the national grid.

The UK government used to run a scheme called Feed in Tariffs but unfortunately they saw fit to stop this scheme but it has now been replaced by the Smart Export Guarantee which pays solar panel owning householders for exporting electricity to the grid.

Project Drawdown estimates that with further growth, distributed solar power: ‘can avoid 27-69 gigatons of greenhouse gases emissions.’

If you are thinking about solar PV then the Energy Saving Trust is a great place to start for information.

Have a look at the Green Business Directory which is a list of Carbon Trust Accredited Suppliers and installers of energy efficiency and renewables.
