Uskmouth Power Station permit change
Friends of the Earth Cymru respond to Natural Resource Wales’s consultation on the Uskmouth power station permit change (May 2020)
We oppose the proposals to change the permit for Uskmouth Power Station to burn fuel pellets derived from waste.
This proposed incinerator plant in Newport, South Wales would led to destructive climate emissions which will contradict the Welsh Government’s own climate emergency declaration and make it even more difficult to comply with Welsh climate targets.
The plant would also result in local air pollution, hazardous waste production, and the permanent destruction of valuable materials and resources such as paper and card, making it hard to achieve our stated goal in Wales of a zero waste circular economy.
It also contradicts the Wellbeing of Future Generation Act.
