Wales hasn’t had a proper environmental watchdog since Brexit. We’re dragging our heels behind all the other UK nations, which already have one. For decades, polluters have been allowed to get away with it. And the impact is clear: 1 in 5 species in Wales is at risk of extinction and our communities are suffering.
But now we have the chance to make things better.
A much needed new environmental law is being put before the Senedd. It will:
- put environmental principles at the heart of decision-making
- create a watchdog to protect and improve our environment
- lead to biodiversity targets to reverse the decline in species
