Reclaim your water

Published: 6 Dec 2021

Apparently, around four baths full of water goes into our sewers from the roof of each of our houses when it rains - that’s a lot of water!

With climate chaos bringing changes in rainfall patterns and with technological advances bringing other solutions more into the mainstream, as we move forwards, the use of ‘reclaimed water’ will surely be seen more and more.

This could include rainwater harvesting collected from roofs, or systems which reuse wash water from the bathroom or kitchen (grey water treatment). Depending on how much the reclaimed water is treated, it could be used for things like watering the garden, through to toilet flushing, use in washing machines, car washing, irrigation etc.

Here is some more information.

If you are thinking of installing either of these sorts of reclaimed water systems, do make sure you are complying with all the necessary regulations. Visit WRAS for more information.
