Support the Climate Strike on 20 Sept 2019

Published: 11 Sep 2019

Friends of the Earth Cymru are supporting the global climate strikes on Friday 20 September. Here Eleni Morus, one of our volunteers, explains why she will be joining the strikes.

My name is Eleni and I’m a volunteer for Friends of the Earth Cymru.

At 25 years old, these are my first, exciting steps in grassroots environmentalism – and what a time to join!

Until last month, I’d never even considered going to a demonstration.

But on 20 September, I’ll be joining the millions of people taking part in the global climate strikes.

I am going to the strike in Cardiff. To find the nearest climate strike to where you live please visit the UKSCN website

I am joining the strike because I want to support the inspiring efforts of our school strikers who are asking people of all ages to back them.

Recently I attended some small protests for the first time and the passion there was amazing – as well as the sense of community. At protests like these, all you have to do is be there...the shouting, singing and placard-waving seem to be optional extras!

Of course, we understand that not everyone will be able to make it to a strike. But that doesn’t mean you have to sit this one out. You can band together with family and neighbours to take a solidarity photo, update your social media profiles or even hold a lunchtime discussion at your workplace.

Thank you so much,

Eleni
