Invest sustainably

Where and how our money is used by banks plays an important role in the climate crisis.

It is less visible but just as important as flying less or switching to eating a more plant-based diet.

We must look at where our money is (in terms of bank accounts, savings, investments and pensions) and what it is being used for.

Have a look online for ethical investment options, there are lots of them out there nowadays but be careful to pick the right ones and ones that suit you.

Ethical Consumer has lots of good information and Good With Money is also a good place to start.

This BBC podcast might also be useful.

Or how about looking into community share offers? For example, there may be some renewable energy projects offering the opportunity for investment. This sort of investment might offer a suitable alternative to other more non-sustainable ones.

Own it

Friends of the Earth have piloted a series of groups – think book club meets weightwatchers – to enable women to share their experiences of money in a safe space and support each other to take action.

Women often have a smaller pension pot than men and are less likely to take out investments like ISAs. When they do invest, they are more likely to make values-based investments.
