Avoid bonfires

We humans seem to be a bit of a pyro species but even the humble garden bonfire isn’t exactly the best idea.
They are a source of carbon emissions (better to let wood rot down slowly), carbon monoxide, dioxins and particles.
If you can avoid them that’s even better, if you are going ahead with one, do please check them for animals such as hedgehogs before lighting them as the numbers of our spiky friends has plummeted in recent years.
