Buy local

Rather staggeringly, the EU Shipping’s Climate Record report says that ‘the shipping sector emitted about 139m tonnes of CO2 in 2018 – equal to CO2 from a quarter of Europe’s total passenger car fleet or 68m cars. ‘
The report also states that shipping emissions have risen since 1990 by about 26m tonnes of CO2, or 19%.
Quite clearly, there is limited scope for us as individuals or in our community groups to change this state of play immediately.
But what we can do is start to minimise the amount of produce and products we consume and use from overseas which all adds to the need for so much shipping.
Choosing good quality local (or as local as possible) products can help support local businesses and jobs as well as reducing our own carbon footprint.
