We are facing a cost-of-living crisis and a climate emergency.

Brand new school uniforms are expensive and wasteful. Children outgrow them quickly, and many of us simply cannot afford to buy them.

Mending or upcycling clothes, buying second-hand, or taking part in clothes swaps, from school uniforms to sports kits, is a great way to save money and reduce our carbon footprint.

Some schools and communities in Wales already run school uniform swap shops but most families don’t have easy access to second-hand school uniforms.

Please support our call to Welsh Government for every school in Wales to have a uniform swap shop to:

  • make school uniforms more affordable.

  • lower greenhouse gas emissions.

  • lessen the stigma around second-hand clothing.

  • empower people to make sustainable decisions.

Please email Julie James, Minister for Climate Change, today and ask her to introduce a Wales-wide school uniform swap scheme. Use or adapt our template email or write your own from scratch.
